Luxury Home Design
In building a luxury home, much depends on the taste and perceptions of the owner. Taste is of course, a relative and delicate issue. What some people would find tasteful may be the epitome of tackiness to others. If taste is a major factor for you in your luxury home design, here are a few concepts to consider:
Don't go overboard with the visual display. Too much mismatched features are a sure sign of pedestrian taste. If your idea of a luxury home is an all glass-and-steel futuristic structure, it might not be a good idea to decorate your front with a reproduction of Michelangelo's David.
Your community will also play an important influence in your luxury home design. You wouldn't want your home to stick out, like the proverbial sore thumb, above the rest of the houses in the area. For example, in urban places like New York or Chicago, a tasteful luxury home might just be a few hundred square feet apartment. In other places, like Edmond in Oklahoma, your luxury home may have sizable square footage and sits on sprawling acreage.
Now, aside from the spacious master bedroom, here are a few luxurious amenities you might want to integrate into your dream home:
Connoisseur Kitchen
I'm fond of gourmet food and I love to experiment in the kitchen, so a well-stocked and well-equipped kitchen is essential for me. If you share my passion for food or just need another amenity to enhance your luxury home, a connoisseur or gourmet kitchen may be a great idea. Actually, with all luxury home builders, it's an expected feature. We're talking about elegant custom cabinetry, 36" Monogram professional stainless steel 6 burner gas range, Profile built-in microwave with sensor cooking, 50 bottles-Beverage center or wine chiller, granite countertops, 30" double-wall ovens with self-cleaning, convection, roast and bake features.
And who says you can't be environmentally-friendly with a luxurious gourmet kitchen? These days, you can help protect the environment by using high-end energy efficient appliances, recycled glass, and wood or charcoal from renewable forest sources.
Library
A friend once observed that having a library in the house might not be a true indicator of intelligence on the part of the owner. That might be true, but it certainly could elicit that desirable impression. Naturally, if you love books, a luxurious home for you would be lacking without a good library. Plush carpets, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and broadband connectivity are in order. We may be moving towards a paperless world, but a few hundred well-selected volumes on display in an opulent and tasteful room in the house is an unmistakable testimony to luxury.
Entertainment Center
Your luxury home is your haven from the pressure and demands of the outside world. Fun is different things to different people. But, whether you're all by your lonesome or with family and friends and just need a good dose of fun and excitement, your luxury home can be the best venue for you. You can allocate your entire first floor to be the residence's fun center. An indoor pool is not a far-fetched idea at all. Some luxury home owners go for in-house bowling alleys, a billiard room, a fitness center cum spa (complete with a massage corner, gym equipment, a refreshment area and a lap pool) or a mini-theater or media room with some serious gaming equipment or high-end home-theater system.
Other luxurious amenities
The master bathroom in your home can provide a luxurious and relaxing retreat for you. An oversized jetted tub, steam shower, heated floors and towel warmer. You can also include the latest technology to your luxury home design to add more distinction. For example, you might want to install the latest devices that will allow you to remotely control lighting, appliances, temperature, and security sensors and cameras from a central location or from other parts of the house or from your work place.
Whatever amenity or feature you'd want to include in your luxury home, keep in mind those things that you will use and enjoy. After all, your luxury home is not a museum but your own personal castle to actually live the good life in.
